Strategy and Planning

Our work is guided by a five-year strategic plan and an annual operating plan and budget. Together these set the direction for the IANA functions, describe the initiatives we will invest in, and provide the transparency that allows the communities we serve to hold us accountable for delivering them.

Mission

Our strategy and planning are intended to help us best fulfil this mission.

Vision

Our vision for 2030 is to foster an Internet that works seamlessly everywhere through the reliable coordination of unique identifiers, that adapts and innovates to meet evolving community needs.

Strategic Plan

The IANA 2030 Strategy is our five-year strategic plan, covering fiscal years 2026 through 2030. It works toward our 2030 vision through three focus areas:

• Innovation — advancing operational agility and technological adaptability by proactively assessing emerging technologies and implementing innovative solutions;
• Operational Excellence — sustaining excellence through staff development, streamlined processes, and evolving continuous improvement practices; and
• Community Engagement — strengthening relationships with the communities we serve and raising awareness of IANA's mission among new and non-traditional stakeholders.

The strategy was shaped by contributions from the PTI Board of Directors, staff, customers, and community stakeholders. Read the IANA 2030 Strategy (PDF).

Annual Operating Plan and Budget

Each year we develop an operating plan and budget that translates the strategic plan into the coming fiscal year's concrete activities and the resources required to deliver them. A draft is published for public comment before being adopted by the PTI Board, and the adopted plan feeds into ICANN's overall operating plan and budget process. Our fiscal year runs from July through June.
