Contributing to the Time Zone Database

The Time Zone Database is maintained by a community of volunteers, who track changes made by political bodies to time zone boundaries, UTC offsets, and daylight-saving rules, and update the database accordingly.

Proposing changes

Proposed updates and corrections to the database are contributed by email to tz@iana.org. Note that mail sent to this address is distributed to the submissions and discussion mailing list, where it is discussed publicly before being adopted, and is memorialized in a public archive. Useful contributions typically cite reliable sources, such as government announcements, for the change being proposed.

If you would prefer not to post to the public mailing list directly, you can instead communicate your contribution to IANA at iana@iana.org, who will summarize and relay it to the mailing list as appropriate.

Management Procedure

The Time Zone Database is maintained under the procedure documented in Procedures for Maintaining the Time Zone Database. In accordance with that procedure, the current community coordinators are Paul Eggert and Tim Parenti.
