Time Zone Database Releases

Every published release of the Time Zone Database that is available for download, newest first, with a summary of the changes it introduced. Release notes are maintained in the NEWS file of the distribution.

2026-03-01	2026a Moldova has used EU transition times since 2022. The “right” TZif files are no longer installed by default. -DTZ_RUNTIME_LEAPS=0 disables runtime support for leap seconds. TZif files are no longer limited to 50 bytes of abbreviations. zic is no longer limited to 50 leap seconds. Several integer overflow bugs have been fixed.

2025-03-22	2025b New zone for Aysén Region in Chile which moves from -04/-03 to -03.
2025-01-15	2025a Paraguay adopted permanent -03 starting spring 2024. Improve pre-1991 data for the Philippines. Etc/Unknown is now reserved.
2024-09-04	2024b Improve historical data for Mexico, Mongolia, and Portugal. System V names are now obsolescent. The main data form now uses %z. The code now conforms to RFC 8536 for early timestamps. Support POSIX.1-2024, which removes asctime_r and ctime_r. Assume POSIX.2-1992 or later for shell scripts. SUPPORT_C89 now defaults to 1.
2024-02-01	2024a Kazakhstan unifies on UTC+5 beginning 2024-03-01. Palestine springs forward a week later after Ramadan. zic no longer pretends to support indefinite-past DST. localtime no longer mishandles Ciudad Juárez in 2422.
2023-12-21	2023d Ittoqqortoormiit, Greenland changes time zones on 2024-03-31. Vostok, Antarctica changed time zones on 2023-12-18. Casey, Antarctica changed time zones five times since 2020. Code and data fixes for Palestine timestamps starting in 2072. A new data file zonenow.tab for timestamps starting now.
2023-03-28	2023c Lebanon's 2023 DST chaos is modeled by reverting data to tzdb 2023a, undoing the 2023b change.
2023-03-23	2023b Lebanon's 2023 spring-forward moved from March 25/26 to April 20/21. This change was reverted in 2023c.
2023-03-22	2023a Egypt now uses DST again, from April through October. This year Morocco springs forward April 23, not April 30. Palestine delays the start of DST this year. Much of Greenland still uses DST from 2024 on. America/Yellowknife now links to America/Edmonton. tzselect can now use current time to help infer timezone. The code now defaults to C99 or later. Fix use of C23 attributes.

2018-12-30	2018i São Tomé and Príncipe switches from +01 to +00 on 2019-01-01.
2018-12-23	2018h Qyzylorda, Kazakhstan moved from +06 to +05 on 2018-12-21. New zone Asia/Qostanay because Qostanay, Kazakhstan didn't move. Metlakatla, Alaska observes PST this winter only. Guess Morocco will continue to adjust clocks around Ramadan. Add predictions for Iran from 2038 through 2090.
2018-10-26	2018g Morocco switches to permanent +01 on 2018-10-28.
2018-10-18	2018f Volgograd moves from +03 to +04 on 2018-10-28. Fiji ends DST 2019-01-13, not 2019-01-20. Most of Chile changes DST dates, effective 2019-04-06.
2018-05-01	2018e North Korea switches back to +09 on 2018-05-05. The main format uses negative DST again, for Ireland etc. 'make tarballs' now also builds a rearguard tarball. New 's' and 'd' suffixes in SAVE columns of Rule and Zone lines.
2018-03-22	2018d In 2018, Palestine starts DST on March 24, not March 31. Adjust future predictions accordingly.
2018-01-22	2018c Revert Irish changes that relied on negative SAVE values.
2018-01-17	2018b Fix a packaging problem in tz2018a, which was missing 'pacificnew'.
2018-01-12	2018a São Tomé and Príncipe switched from +00 to +01. Brazil's DST will now start on November's first Sunday. Ireland's standard time is now in the summer, not the winter. Use Debian-style installation locations, instead of 4.3BSD-style. New zic option -t.
2017-10-20	2017c Northern Cyprus switches from +03 to +02/+03 on 2017-10-29. Fiji ends DST 2018-01-14, not 2018-01-21. Namibia switches from +01/+02 to +02 on 2018-04-01. Sudan switches from +03 to +02 on 2017-11-01. Tonga likely switches from +13/+14 to +13 on 2017-11-05. Turks & Caicos switches from -04 to -05/-04 on 2018-11-04. A new file tzdata.zi now holds a small text copy of all data. The zic input format has been regularized slightly.
2017-03-17	2017b Haiti has resumed DST.
2017-02-28	2017a Southern Chile moves from -04/-03 to -03, and Mongolia discontinues DST.
2016-11-22	2016j Saratov, Russia moves from +03 to +04 on 2016-12-04.
2016-11-01	2016i Cyprus split into two time zones on 2016-10-30, and Tonga reintroduces DST on 2016-11-06.
2016-10-19	2016h Asia/Gaza and Asia/Hebron end DST on 2016-10-29 at 01:00, with future fall transitions predicted for the last Saturday of October. Turkey's 1986-1990 transitions were at 01:00 standard time and its spring 1994 transition was on March 20. Asia/Colombo now uses numeric time zone abbreviations. zic no longer mishandles relativizing symbolic-link names such as /etc/localtime, fixing a 2016g bug.
2016-09-13	2016g Turkey switched to permanent +03 effective 2016-09-07. New leap second 2016-12-31 23:59:60 UTC. Asia/Rangoon was renamed to Asia/Yangon, and many zones in Antarctica and the former Soviet Union now use numeric time zone abbreviations. zdump has a new experimental -i option, and zic no longer generates POSIX TZ strings that disagree with the data's last transition.
2016-07-05	2016f Africa/Cairo will not introduce DST on 2016-07-07 after all. Asia/Novosibirsk switches from +06 to +07 on 2016-07-24 at 02:00. Europe/Minsk's 1992-03-29 spring-forward transition was at 02:00, not 00:00.
2016-06-14	2016e Africa/Cairo observes DST in 2016 from July 7 to the end of October. Uninhabited locations now use '-00' instead of 'zzz' as a placeholder abbreviation. zic now outputs a dummy transition at time 2**31 - 1 in zones whose TZ strings contain '<', working around a Qt bug.
2016-04-17	2016d America/Caracas switches from -0430 to -04 on 2016-05-01, and Asia/Magadan from +10 to +11 on 2016-04-24. New zones Asia/Tomsk and Europe/Kirov, split off from Asia/Novosibirsk and Europe/Volgograd. Many corrections to historical time in Kazakhstan from 1991 through 2005, and Russia's 1992 DST transition times were fixed.
2016-03-23	2016c Azerbaijan no longer observes DST. Chile reverts from permanent to seasonal DST, with future transitions guessed as August's and May's second Saturdays. Offset-change dates in 1988-1989 for Europe/Kaliningrad, Europe/Vilnius, and Europe/Volgograd were corrected.
2016-03-12	2016b New zones Europe/Astrakhan and Europe/Ulyanovsk switch from +03 to +04, and new zone Asia/Barnaul from +06 to +07, on 2016-03-27; Asia/Sakhalin moves from +10 to +11 the same day. As a trial, the new zones use numeric abbreviations like "+04" instead of invented ones. Haiti will not observe DST in 2016, and Palestine's 2016 spring-forward is at 01:00. Europe/Chisinau's 1990 DST history and Europe/Samara's 1991 abbreviations were corrected.
2016-01-26	2016a America/Cayman will not observe DST this year after all. Asia/Chita switches from +0800 to +0900 on 2016-03-27 at 02:00. America/Metlakatla switched from year-round PST to AKST/AKDT on 2015-11-01, and America/Santa_Isabel was replaced with a link to America/Tijuana.
2015-10-01	2015g Turkey's 2015 fall-back is November 8, and Fiji's 2016 fall-back is January 17. Norfolk moves from +1130 to +1100 on 2015-10-04. New zone America/Fort_Nelson for Fort Nelson, British Columbia, which stays on MST. localtime overflow bugs affecting America/Anchorage and Pacific/Fiji were fixed.
2015-08-10	2015f North Korea switches to +0830 on 2015-08-15. Uruguay no longer observes DST. The '%z' zone format now stands for the numeric UT offset, and zic's '-y YEARISTYPE' option is now considered obsolescent.
2015-06-13	2015e Morocco suspends DST from 2015-06-14 through 2015-07-19. Assume the Cayman Islands will observe DST from 2016 using US rules. iso3166.tab now uses UTF-8, and 2014f bugs in tzselect and zic -l were fixed.
2015-04-24	2015d Egypt will not observe DST in 2015; assume no DST indefinitely. America/Whitehorse switched from -09 to -08 on 1967-05-28, not 1966-07-01. Hawaii-Aleutian abbreviations changed from HAST/HADT to HST/HDT, affecting America/Adak since 1983.
2015-04-11	2015c Egypt's spring-forward transition is at 24:00 on April's last Thursday, not 00:00 on April's last Friday. Many pre-1991 Chile-related timestamps in America/Santiago, Antarctica/Palmer, and Pacific/Easter were corrected. America/Montreal was turned into a link, affecting only pre-1970 timestamps.
2015-03-19	2015b Mongolia resumes DST this year, from March's last Saturday at 02:00 to September's last Saturday at 00:00. Palestine starts DST on March 28, and its fall 2014 transition was corrected to October 24. Volgograd's 1992-2010 DST abbreviation was corrected from MSK to MSD, and more pre-1970-only zones were turned into links. An integer overflow bug in the reference mktime implementation was fixed.
2015-01-29	2015a America/Cancun shifts from Central Time with DST to Eastern Time without DST on 2015-02-01 at 02:00. Chile's new standard time is its old daylight saving time, affecting America/Santiago, Pacific/Easter, and Antarctica/Palmer. New leap second 2015-06-30 23:59:60 UTC. Iceland's early DST history was corrected and incorrect pre-1908 Shanks data removed.
2014-11-10	2014j Turks & Caicos' switch to year-round -04 did not occur in 2014 and is now scheduled for 2015-11-01. Many pre-1989 timestamps for Asia/Seoul and Asia/Pyongyang were corrected. Several African and Indian Ocean zones were turned into links, affecting only pre-1970 timestamps.
2014-10-21	2014i Pacific/Fiji observes DST from 2014-11-02 to 2015-01-18. New zone Pacific/Bougainville, switching from +10 to +11 on 2014-12-28. Europe/Minsk's abbreviation changes from FET to MSK on 2014-10-26. Many pre-1976 timestamps for Asia/Ho_Chi_Minh were corrected, and the time-related library functions now set errno on failure.
2014-09-25	2014h America/Jamaica's 1974 spring-forward transition was January 6, not April 28. More African zones were turned into links, affecting only pre-1970 timestamps. zdump -V and -v now output gmtoff= values on all platforms, and localtime and mktime now set tzname appropriately, fixing a 2014g regression. zdump -c no longer mishandles transitions near year boundaries.
2014-08-28	2014g Turks & Caicos switches from US eastern time to year-round -04, modeled as 2014-11-02 (later delayed). Pre-1926 times in many Russian zones and 1911 times in Portuguese-decree zones were corrected, and a new 'backzone' file collects out-of-scope old data. The tz library gains NetBSD-inspired functions tzalloc, tzfree, localtime_rz, and mktime_z, and can now be built thread-safe. More western African zones were turned into links, affecting only pre-1970 timestamps.
2014-08-05	2014f Most of Russia subtracts an hour on 2014-10-26, with new zones Asia/Chita and Asia/Srednekolymsk. Australian abbreviations are now AEST/AEDT and similar, replacing EST and the like. China's five zones were simplified to two, removing Asia/Harbin, Asia/Chongqing, and Asia/Kashgar, and Asia/Urumqi is now at +06. A new file zone1970.tab supersedes zone.tab, allowing multiple country codes per zone.
2014-06-12	2014e Egypt's 2014 Ramadan-based transitions are June 26 and July 31 at 24:00, and Morocco's are June 28 and August 2. Moscow's summer 1921 double daylight time abbreviation is now MSM instead of MSD.
2014-05-27	2014d zic no longer generates files containing timestamps before the Big Bang, working around a GNOME glib bug.
2014-05-13	2014c Egypt observes DST starting 2014-05-15 at 24:00, with DST predicted to pause during Ramadan. zic now generates transitions for minimum time values, eliminating guesswork for low-valued timestamps.
2014-03-24	2014b Crimea switches to Moscow time on 2014-03-30 at 02:00. New entry for Troll station, Antarctica. zic and localtime no longer reject locations needing four transitions per year.
2014-03-07	2014a Turkey begins DST on 2014-03-31, not 03-30. Fiji ended DST on 2014-01-19 at 02:00, not 03:00. Ukraine's switch to Eastern European time was in 1990, and Israel's 1988 DST dates were corrected. An uninitialized-storage bug in localtime was fixed.
2013-12-17	2013i Jordan switches back to standard time at 00:00 on December 20, 2013. Cuba's 2004 DST began March 28, not April 4. The compile-time flag NOSOLAR and the solar87-89 files were removed.
2013-10-25	2013h Libya switched back to +02 without DST. Western Sahara uses Morocco's DST rules. Acre and western Amazonas switch from -04 to -05 on 2013-11-10. localtime overflow bugs with 32-bit unsigned time_t were fixed.
2013-09-30	2013g Morocco now observes DST from March's last Sunday to October's last Sunday. zic now runs on platforms that lack both hard links and symlinks.
2013-09-24	2013f Tocantins will not observe DST this spring, Jordan will stay at +03 and not fall back, and Palestine falls back at 00:00. The global variables 'timezone' and 'altzone' have been changed back to 'long', as POSIX requires.
2013-09-19	2013e Fiji starts DST on October 27, not October 20. Indonesian abbreviations are now WIB/WITA/WIT. POSIX-like TZ strings now allow transition hours from -167 through 167 and all-year DST, raising the tz file format version from 2 to 3. Many zones differing only before 1970 were turned into links, and zdump now outputs "UT" rather than "UTC".
2013-07-05	2013d Morocco's midsummer transitions this year are July 7 and August 10. Israel now falls back on the last Sunday of October. A bug handling Australia/Macquarie on 32-bit hosts was fixed.
2013-04-19	2013c Gaza and Hebron both observe DST from 2013, predicted as March's last Thursday at 24:00 to the first Friday on or after September 21 at 01:00. Paraguay's DST end moves permanently to the fourth Sunday in March. Several 2008-2011 Palestine transition times were corrected.
2013-03-10	2013b Haiti uses US daylight-saving rules this year and presumably in the future. Paraguay ends DST on March 24 this year. Morocco does not observe DST during Ramadan.
2013-02-27	2013a The zone offset at the end of version-2-format zone files may now be 24:00, per POSIX.1-2008. Chile's 2013 and later rules are assumed to match 2012. New zones Asia/Khandyga, Asia/Ust-Nera, and Europe/Busingen. Many pre-1940 timestamps were corrected using Milne's 1899 data, and a zic bug mishandling Egypt's 2010 changes was fixed.
2012-11-12	2012j Libya moved to CET, with DST planned for next year. zic -v now complains about abbreviations shorter than 3 or longer than 6 characters, per POSIX.
2012-11-03	2012i Cuba ends DST on 2012-11-04 at 01:00. Build changes: linker flags can be set via LDFLAGS, AWK defaults to 'awk', and tarball signatures can be built with 'make signatures'.
2012-10-26	2012h Bahia no longer has DST, and Tocantins has DST. Israel has new DST rules next year, and Jordan stays on DST this winter.
2012-10-17	2012g Samoa's DST rules from fall 2012 onward were updated, along with Palestine's fall 2012 transition. The code now assumes C89, and the Makefile carrying the release number is shipped in both tarballs.
2012-09-12	2012f Fiji's DST this year is October 21 through January 20.
2012-08-02	2012e Tokelau is at +13, not +14. Code and data now share a single version number.
2012-07-19	code2012c-data2012d Morocco's timestamps were updated, along with infrastructure changes for releasing tz code and data through IANA.
2012-03-27	data2012c Morocco's 2012 summer time starts in late April. 2012 changes for Gaza, the West Bank (Hebron), and Syria. Haiti follows US/Canada rules for 2012.
2012-03-02	2012b Cuba's 2012 summer time is delayed three weeks, now starting April 1 rather than March 11. The Makefile accidentally shipped in tzcode2012a was replaced with the correct version.
2012-03-01	2012a Chile's 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 summer time dates were adjusted. The Falkland Islands move to permanent summer time, Armenia abolishes summer time, and Tokelau jumped the International Date Line back in December 2011. New zone America/Creston for a small area of British Columbia. New leap second 2012-06-30 23:59:60 UTC.
2011-10-30	data2011n Cuba extends summer time by two weeks, now ending November 13. Europe/Tiraspol was removed again and reinstated as a link to Europe/Chisinau. Fiji's summer time end was moved forward to January 22.
2011-10-24	data2011m The Ukraine change was applied to all four Ukrainian zones rather than just Europe/Kiev. Europe/Tiraspol was added to zone.tab.
2011-10-10	data2011l Generated data changed for Asia/Hebron and Pacific/Fiji.
2011-09-20	data2011k Belarus and Ukraine stay on summer time permanently, moving to +03 (FET) year-round after their March 2011 spring-forward. Kaliningrad's abbreviation changes from KALT to FET. A new zone Asia/Hebron was split from Asia/Gaza for the West Bank, and both Palestinian zones' 2011 DST transitions were recorded.
2011-09-12	data2011j Contemporary changes for Samoa, and past changes for Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
2011-08-29	2011i Samoa moves from -11 to +13 at the end of 2011-12-29, crossing the International Date Line. A new zone Africa/Juba was created for the new country of South Sudan. Newfoundland and Labrador adopt standard Canadian DST rules from November 2011, moving transitions from 00:01 to 02:00. America/Resolute was reclassified from Eastern to Central time.
2011-06-15	data2011h Russia abandons DST: its zones advance one hour on March 27, 2011 and stay on the new offsets year-round. Following the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles, new zones America/Kralendijk and America/Lower_Princes are added as links to America/Curacao, with new country codes BQ, CW, and SX. Obsolete Russian Antarctic DST rules were removed.
2011-04-25	2011g Egypt's rules were updated to reflect its abandonment of DST this year.
2011-04-06	2011f The Falkland Islands stay on summer time through the 2011 southern winter, skipping the April 2011 fall-back. The usual mid-April end of summer time resumes in 2012.
2011-03-31	2011e Morocco observes DST in 2011, from April 3 to July 31. Chile extends its 2011 DST to the first week of May and resumes it in mid-August, returning to the usual early-October start from 2012.
2011-03-14	2011d Changes affecting present-day timestamps in Cuba, Samoa, and Turkey.

2011-02-07	2011b A new zone America/North_Dakota/Beulah was created for Mercer County, North Dakota, which switched from Mountain to Central time on 2010-11-07.
2011-01-24	2011a South Australia's DST end dates for 1986-1994 were corrected. Pacific/Honolulu's pre-1947 history was corrected, including its 1933 and wartime DST periods. The localtime library code was updated.
2010-11-01	data2010o Fiji's 2011 DST end date was changed.
2010-10-25	2010n Samoa's 2011 DST end was adjusted to 01:00 on April 3. The zic compiler and localtime library code were updated.
2010-09-27	2010m Hong Kong's historical DST rules were corrected to end in 1976 rather than 1977. The zone.tab description of Antarctica/Vostok was revised. Includes changes to zic.
2010-08-16	2010l Egypt's 2010 Ramadan DST suspension was adjusted to run from August 11 to September 10, with transitions at midnight local time. Palestine also suspends DST on 2010-08-11 for Ramadan.
2010-07-26	2010k Egypt suspends DST for Ramadan 2010, from August 10 to September 9. Pacific/Truk and Pacific/Ponape were renamed Pacific/Chuuk and Pacific/Pohnpei, with links keeping the old names. Finland's 1981-1982 DST history was corrected.
2010-05-10	2010j Data for Bahía de Banderas, Mexico was updated. The scheme for naming releases was revised.

Tasmania's 2000 DST start moved to the last Sunday of August; Tonga's DST transitions now occur at 2:00 standard time and end the Sunday on or after April 16; Paraguay's DST now ends the last Sunday of February. Syria's DST start in 1997-1998 was corrected to the last Monday of March. Many historical transitions were corrected, notably Brazil's 1988-1996 DST end dates, 1990s changes in Libya and the ex-Soviet Central Asian states, Australia's 1916-1917 DST, and Kosrae's offset history.
1999-10-07	data1999h European time zone data was corrected, most importantly for Lithuania and Estonia.
1999-09-28	1999g Lebanon ends DST on the last Sunday of October from 1999. Egypt's DST now starts on the last Friday of April, Cuba's starts April 1 from 2000, and Paraguay's ends on the last Saturday of February. Australian rules receive historical corrections, and South Australia's planned early DST start in 2000 is dropped. Checking of time zone files before publication was improved.
1999-09-23	1999f Tonga adopts DST starting October 1999. Palestine gets its own DST rules separate from Jordan, and a Jordan-rule zone stays on summer time past July 1999. Nunavut zones move to Central Time on 1999-10-31, and new zone America/Cambridge_Bay is added. Brazil's DST now runs from the first Sunday of October to the last Sunday of February.
1999-08-17	1999e New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia will start DST early, on the last Sunday of August, in 2000. Jordan's open-ended DST rules dating from 1993 were closed off after 1998. Brazilian zone abbreviations were reworked (e.g. EST to BRT, WST to AMT) and Brazilian DST letters corrected. A change to handling of DST-specifying time zone names was included in the code but left disabled.
1999-03-30	1999d Cuba's DST now begins the last Sunday in March. Nicosia now uses the EUAsia rule set. The release process now test-compiles each individual data file to catch errors before publication.
1999-03-25	1999c Chile and its Antarctic bases extended DST in 1999 to end on April 4, with the 1998 start moved to September 27. A new zone Antarctica/Syowa was added.
1999-02-01	1999b Fiji adopted DST, and New South Wales and Victoria will start DST early on 2000 Aug 26 for the Sydney Olympics. Egypt now ends DST on the last Thursday of September, Cyprus switched to EU rules, and Israel's dates were set for 1999 with new rules from 2000. Part of Mexico moved from Eastern to Central Time in August 1998, and new Brazilian zones America/Belem, America/Araguaina and America/Porto_Velho were split off amid historical corrections. Symbolic links are now handled correctly when building with a relative directory, and messages for failed links were corrected.

Future DST rules were revised for Egypt, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Cuba, and Paraguay. New zones America/Cancun, America/Chihuahua, and Asia/Samarkand were split off, and Asia/Alma-Ata was renamed Asia/Almaty.
